Congratulations Jaz on reaching your 20 Years long service milestone!
Congratulations to Jaz Johal, who recently achieved 20 years’ service with us as our Payroll Manager at our Nottingham office. We had a quick catch up with Jaz to find out more.
What do you enjoy most about working for Haines Watts?
I like the atmosphere we have within the office, the banter and the fact everyone is very friendly and helpful. All the directors are down to earth, approachable and supportive, they have an open-door policy and value staff input which helps to build relationships and offer a flexible working environment. Every day is different, challenging, and exciting in payroll. My role gives me the opportunity to help clients, I’ve enjoyed being able to build good relationships with them over the last 20 years.
How did you get into payroll?
I tried different areas of accountancy such as stock control, VAT return preparation and bookkeeping before settling into payroll.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to work within this industry?
Always to keep calm whatever the day brings, payroll can be a stressful matter for clients. Teamwork is also important to make sure every angle is covered. Also having had the opportunity to experience different fields within the financial profession such as bookkeeping and VAT etc, has meant I have been able to follow the career path I wanted. This flexibility to allow you to try different areas within the business is key when you begin your career, to find out what you enjoy most and what is the best fit for you.
